Activist Okiya Omtatah’s office raided, electronics stolen

Police are looking into a break-in when alleged attackers took various technological items from Senator Okiya Omtatah’s Busia office.

Omtatah has taken the lead in numerous legal battles involving violations of other people’s rights and human rights, including the most recent one involving the Finance Act of 2023.

He confirmed that unidentified individuals entered into his workplace in Busia town and stole electronics.

“They could be ordinary burglars but we don’t know the motive so far. We leave it to the police,” he said.

He added the suspected thieves stole electronic goods which he has been using for various operations.

Omtatah said the incident had been reported to police who are investigating it.

It happened on Saturday morning and he was away from the county.

“I don’t want to speculate for now. They stole electronic goods and other stuff,” he said.

Police in the area confirmed the incident happened and that investigations are ongoing over the same.

Omtatah is leading in opposing the Finance Act 2023 whose implementation has been stopped by the courts.

He last month revealed to have received offers of up to Sh200 million to withdraw his petition against the Finance Act 2023.
