Julie Gichuru is one of the household names when it comes to media personalities in Kenya.

She has a wealth of experience in media-related fields such as broadcast, print and digital media and was everybody’s favourite anchor before she resigned to explore other opportunities.

Julie Gichuru is the daughter of a Kashmiri father and Kikuyu mother. It was a devastating moment when Julie Gichuru parents separated, and her father remarried. She has three sisters and one half-brother.

What no man wants to hear

Julie Gichuru was on NTV’s The Trend during the annual SOYA awards and in the interview, Julie mentioned something that no man wants to hear.

The former Citizen TV girl said that there are many things she cannot do chief among them is sports and cooking. Apparently, she does not cook for her husband.

There are so many things I cannot do. I cannot do sports; I’m terrible I can cheer though. And I cannot cook soo…

Julie used to work at a food factory, packing pancakes while studying in the UK. She did not have money to sustain her as she waited to sit for bar exams; hence, opted to look for work in Kenya. That is how she landed at KTN.

She debuted at KTN but moved to Capital FM before getting a reporting role at KTN. Later on, she joined NTV after which Royal Media Services recruited her. She quit Citizen TV in 2017 and worked at KBC at her show called African Leadership Dialogues.

Julie has pioneered several programs and shows on all sorts of issues such as governance, peace and politics. Following the violence that preceded the 2007 general elections, her peace special resonated with the public.

Julie Gichuru’s business ventures include the online retail fashion outlet Mimi and production company Arimus Media Ltd. She is also a TV Host with East Africa’s leading broadcaster Citizen TV.

Julie works on growing local productions through Arimus Media Limited, including AFRICA Leadership Dialogues, Great Debaters Contest, Maisha and Glam Show.
