Improved eDahab money transfer service strengthens e-business sector in the Somali region and beyond

The Somtel Somalia one of the leading telecommunication companies, which is a member of Dahabshiil Group, initiated improved eDahab services which have been operational for more than eight years.

The eDahab has been described as a service of Somtel Somalia International Limited that allows you to upload funds into your mobile and pay for just about anything. From a grocery store to a shopping mall or eating out at restaurants with friends.

Launched on 15th January 2016 by Dahabshiil Group in Mogadishu, Somalia, the e-Dahab services, has extensively provided mobile payment systems to large cities, smaller towns and rural areas, including several areas where Somtel Somalia and other providers were not previously supplying these much-needed services.

The eDahab facility has also offered financial services through the mobile phone. This has enabled those in the unbanked community to access such a service for the first time. This important development proved to be of great service to the increasing e-business sector in the Somali region and beyond.

“Significantly, eDahab mobile payments and Dahabshiil Bank, which are fully conforming with local and international laws and regulations, has provided customers with access to banking and financial services. Customers, including those who have never before had access to the internet or banking, will gain access to new and better services at highly competitive rates.” Mohamed Said Duale, founder and Chairman of Dahabshil Group stated at the launch of the service.

“The innovative e-Dahab mobile money service has allowed customers to use their money for transfers, purchases, payment of bills, and airtime recharge.” Mahad Omar Abdulle, Marketing & Public Relation Manager of Somtel Somalia    explained.

The e-Dahab service has been observed to have contributed to the creation of hundreds of jobs for the unemployed youth in all the regional locations where Somtel Somalia is operational.

“The e-Dahab mobile money services have since its inception attracted millions registered customers in all regions of Somalia and beyond which has been seen to be more than anticipated and continues to see an expanding customer base.” Abdifatah Abdikadir Omar, Edahab Director South and central Somalia stated.

Currently, its estimated that eDahab money transfer service provides more than 5 million customers across the region with a safe, secure, and affordable way to send and receive money, top-up airtime, make bill payments, receive salaries, get short-term loans and much more.

In addition, eDahab is transforming the way that humanitarian aid is being delivered by finding innovative ways to ensure that those most in need are reached.

The eDahab Cash transfers have been used in Somalia for number of years to meet with the immediate needs of the conflicts and climate change affected communities by Cash Working Group in Somalia.
