Radio Maisha names Anthony Ndiema as new boss, makes other changes

Radio Maisha made a statement announcing changes to its management and programming, including Anthony Ndiema’s appointment as the new station director.

Ndiema will also serve as the program controller, the Standard Group announced in a statement on Tuesday, February 21.

“Ndiema makes a comeback after going back for a master’s degree at Daystar University and an additional career as Hope FM’s station manager,” the announcement stated.

The station explained that Ndiema was selected for the role because of his vast experience in radio management and team leadership.

“I am happy to be back on the saddle working with Tom Japani to steer radio Maisha to an even greater height,” Ndiema stated.

Moreover, the radio station revealed that it would be onboarding new presenters including Solomon Zully who had formerly worked as a presenter at Kaya FM and Radio Salaam in Mombasa.

Kassim Mbui, also from the Coast, will be joining the station as a presenter together with actress and presenter Nzula Makosi.

Nzula, who had been working in the media industry for 13 years, noted that she was elated to return to an industry she cherished.

“Thank you for giving me this chance to reconnect with Kenyans on this big platform,” the new presenter stated.

Moreover, Dalmas Sakali was promoted at the Mombasa Road-based station and will serve as the deputy editor at the radio station.

The General manager of radio products Tom Japani acknowledged the changes adding that the station would continue to deliver good and compelling content.

“We are delighted to welcome the new members of the team. The above are only the on-air personalities; others will be joining in other supporting roles,” Japani added.

The appointments came days after the previous Programmes Controller Lynda Oriaso and News Editor Geoffrey Mung’ou exited the radio station and were said to have been poached by Radio47, a new outfit yet to be launched, owned by Cape Media.

Other journalists who left Radio Maisha in January 2023 include producers Irene Kaimuri and Eric Wambugu and news reader Beatrice Maganga.

Sports enthusiast and presenter Hassan Mwana Wa Ali aka Kauleni also left the Mombasa Road-based media house.

The Standard Group, which owns KTN News, KTN Home, The Standard Newspaper, Radio Maisha, Spice FM and Vybez Radio is grappling with a talent hemorrhage occasioned by its unrelenting financial woes.

Radio Maisha has also been hit hard after Cape Media went on a poaching spree to pluck the station’s top presenters, leaving it limping and exposed.
