University student donates 50 shoes to barefoot pupils to mark his 23rd birthday

Today is John Marambu’s birthday, and he decided to make the occasion special by hosting a party for the less fortunate.

At the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Marambu is a student.

To do this, the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) third-year medical student spent the day interacting with youngsters at Kakamega’s Maraba Primary School.

The humanitarian explained to Hillary Lisimba of TUKO.co.ke that as he was strolling through the neighborhood, he discovered that numerous students were walking barefoot to school.

Marambu claims he was moved and felt he could help them, which is why he launched a program to give shoes to school-going kids from disadvantaged families.

“I managed to donate 50 pairs of shoes to those pupils so that when schools resume, they will not walk barefoot again,” he said.

Marambu comes from Uasin Gishu, which is in Huruma, but he ended up at MMUST in Kakamega to pursue a bachelor’s degree in global health and travel medicine.

According to him, under the auspices of Umoja ni Nguvu, he will be feeding street families in Eldoret on Christmas Day, God willing.

He took MMUST classmates to the Jawabu Rehabilitation Center for the day in June of this year.

Children from various parts of the county who are physically challenged are housed in the facility in Kipkaren, Eldoret.

Marambu told TUKO.co.ke that he was moved to act because so many people are in need and he could only image what the children are going through right now.

Imagine how difficult it is for individuals who have various disabilities and are in rehabilitation centers, he added, adding that it has become so impossible for the average mwananchi to put food on the table.

He claimed that after becoming sympathetic to their plight, he rallied other young people to pool their meager resources and travel to the facility.
