Ex-Machachari Govi: I was a Makanga at South B at only five

Former Machachari actor Malik Lemuel Mbele alias Govi has for the umpteenth time reminded Kenyans that he was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

The Machachari star has for the longest time been termed as a rich kid owing to his current lifestyle.

For many, the child star made a lot of money for his role in Makutano Junction, Machachari and other projects, something the actor recently diluted with facts.

Govi, in an interview with comedian Jalas, disclosed that he went through a rough phase in life while growing up in the slums.

The actor said growing up was not easy for him as his parents were not well off then and had to house-hop due to lack of finances.

The funny actor said that he partly grew up in Wangige before moving to Imara Daima and later South B.

”I was born in 2000 in Kenyatta Hospital, a public hospital. When I was growing up, those days we were house hoping. My dad would take us to his cousins, get kicked out and so on. We moved to Wangige, then Imara Daima and finally South B. We really struggled until my dad flew to UAE, and Machachari gig came through,” Govi said.

He added he was forced to become a matatu makanga in South B at only five because of the hardships back at home.

”I was a Makanga at South B at only five, we could come from school and hit the matatu stages to fill up matatus. My cousin was the one who was teaching me the ropes.” Govi added.

It was after Machachari gig when things started to look up for him and his family.

Through the same interview, Govi revealed he was not fired from the show but had quit earlier.

He is a household name having featured on Machachari which aired for over a decade.
