Supreme Court rejects first Petition against William Ruto’s Swearing in

A voter’s request to stop the inauguration of president-elect William Ruto has been rejected by the Supreme Court.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was not quorate when its chairman Wafula Chebukati announced the results, according to Alfred Juma Ayora, who contested the presidential outcome.

However, the voter’s letter would not be accepted because it did not meet the necessary legal requirements.

“I write to express the unsatisfactory nature of this year’s general election results for presidential candidates that were announced by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on August 15, 2022.

“It is my hope the court will consider my request and ensure my democratic rights are met. I request the court to postpone the swearing-in of the president-elect,” according to nation.africa reports.

He was instructed to consult a counsel to properly draft his petition before the Supreme Court.

This occurred as the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party prepared to challenge Ruto’s election through a petition.

The alliance has until Monday, August 22, to file a petition challenging the presidential election results; the petition must be submitted seven days after the winner is announced.

The presidential election results announced by Chebukati were contested by Raila Odinga.

William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance received 7,176,141 votes, or 50.49% of the total votes cast, according to the results released by Chebukati.

With 6,942,930 votes (48%), Raila finished in second place.
