Modern Coast Crush Survivor Asks Kenyans to Contribute 40K For His Treatment

Hassan Mukoko, a survivor of the tragic Modern Coast accident that claimed the lives of 35 people, has pleaded with Kenyans to help him raise 40k to cater for his treatment expenses.

Mukoko was thrown out of the bus when it was moving down the slope before crushing at Nithi River on the night of 25th July.

The impact of the fall made him break his legs severely though he does not remember much about the accident because he lost consciousness.

“I remember some people carry me before I lost consciousness,” he said.

He was taken to Chuka Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

However, he is yet to receive specialized treatment for his broken legs.

His doctors have recommended he have metal fittings to support his broken legs, a procedure that will cost Ksh 40k.

Sadly, Mukoko claims that he is worried that he may never recover his legs because he is unable to raise 40k due to his situation.

“My legs have not been fitted by the rods after he fell down. The doctors are saying I should raise KSh 40,000 for the operations, but I do not have the amount. I’m worried because my legs may be damaged,” he said.

He went on to plead, “I appeal to anyone willing to help to come through.”

Worst of it all, Mukoko is yet to know the whereabouts of his wife and son, who were also involved in the accident.

He explained that he traveling to Mombasa to take his son to meet his parents.

While his doctors are working hard to calm him about his missing family, Mukoko suspects that something bad has happened to his family.

“I have been asking doctors the whereabouts of my family but they are telling me that they are okay, though I suspect otherwise,” he explained tearfully.

The Modern Coast bus was traveling from Meru to Mombasa when the accident happened.

The wife of the driver of the ill-fated accused the company of allowing the bus to operate with failed breaks, despite numerous complaints forwarded by her husband.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the company’s buses from operating until they are fully investigated.
