From Being a ‘Mpango wa Kando’ to the Wife of a Gospel Artist: The Story of Diana Marua

Diana Marua, who also goes by Diana Bahati, is among the few successful content creators and highly paid brand ambassadors. She is the wife to gospel singer, now turned-politician, Kevin Bahati. She rose to prominence in 2014 when she featured in Bahati’s hit, Mapenzi, as a video vixen.

She faced a lot of trolls when she first became a celebrity, but she did not tire of creating a brand for herself, away from being known as Bahati’s wife. Her resilience has been paying off as she now brands herself as ‘Auntie Madoo,’ which means she is rich.

Here’s her biographical profile as compiled by Mkenya Leo.

Birth

Diana was born on November 5, 1988, in Migori County but grew up in Nairobi, where her parents worked and lived.

Family

Diana is from an ethnically mixed family. Her mother is a Kikuyu, while her father is a Luo from Migori County. Her parents separated when she was young. Hence, her father raised her and her siblings. In an interview with a renowned magazine, Diana recounts how her father was violent to the point her mother had to leave. Her mother is now deceased and was buried on her mother’s farm in Kiambu.

Diana has two sisters, Mitch, a famous make-up artist, and Val. The siblings faced many challenges growing up with their father, whom they feared. In a sit-down video with her husband, Diana revealed that she would never want her children to grow up fearing their father like her siblings.

In her mother’s absence, Diana had to partake motherly duties of taking care of her family.

Marriage

Diana and Bahati met at a set where Bahati was shooting a video for his son Mapenzi. Diana was the video’s main video vixen, and Bahati fell in love instantly with her. However, Bahati was not Diana’s type; hence, he had to work hard to woo her into falling in love with him. The effort paid off, and the two started a romantic relationship, after which they conducted a traditional wedding in which Bahati paid for her dowry.

The couple has four children; Morgan (an adopted son), Heaven and Majesty, and Mueni (Bahati’s daughter from a previous relationship). They usually express their love online, allowing their fans to follow up with their lives closely.

Diana and Bahati are yet to do a white wedding, though they got engaged in an event in which Bahati was performing in 2018. Bahati has always promised to marry her in an exquisite wedding once they settle in life.

Education

You will be surprised to learn that the beautiful mother is learned. She has an accountancy certificate from the Kenya College of Accounting (KCA). She also holds a Diploma in Information Technology and Professional Marketing and Communication from St. Paul’s University.

Career

Diana started working when she was young.

Her first job was as a receptionist at KEMRI in 2011. She then worked as an assistant HR at Neo, after which she joined Bio Foods Limited in 2014 as an executive accountant.

Interestingly, Diana always wanted to be in the media. In a sit-down video with her sisters, she revealed that she wanted to host a show like Oprah Winfrey. Her husband introduced her to content creation and mentored her until she built a stable brand. She is currently a brand ambassador of Raha Premium Flour and other big-wig companies.

Diana featured in adverts before she became famous. The most known was an advert for Nivea body lotion in which she played a mother who protects her family’s skin using Nivea lotion.

In late 2021, Diana shocked her fans when she released her first rap song Hatuachana. She was trolled for her new venture but the song gained overwhelming support from fans. She currently dropped a new hit, Sweet Love, featuring her hubby.

Trolls

If trolls could kill, then Diana could be six feet underground. The social media space did not receive her warmly. She was first trolled because of her age when the public realized she was dating Bahati. People called her “shosh” and advised Bahati to leave her.

Another major trolling she experienced happened when Mueni, Bahati’s daughter came into the picture. She posted a picture of Mueni online without Mama Mueni’s consent, resulting in the two fighting each other. Netizens took Mama Mueni’s side and accused Diana of trying to play mum to a child that is not hers. They thought Diana was using Mueni to win Bahati’s favor.

Scandals

There is no Diana without scandals, as she has faced many. The most famous one involved Willy Paul, whom she accused of trying to rape her. She had gone online to address Willy Paul who had insulted her in a song.

In 2020, she was accused by an ex-friend of refusing to pay for bags and shoes. The ex-friend, Jane Mwangi, claimed that she had imported the goods from Nigeria, only for Diana to refuse to pay for them.

In 2021, she was involved in a scandal with Shiku Waweru, the founder of LimaVest. Diana accused Shiku of conning her followers by selling them non-existent land.

Life as a Side-Chick

Diana has never shied away from revealing that she used to date married men for men. In one of her videos appreciating her success, she revealed that she once dated three married men at once, one for paying her rent, another for buying food, and another for buying her clothes. She explained that she found it challenging to date Bahati at first because he could not provide her with the lifestyle she had been used to.

Apart from the married men, she has been rumored to have dated Starehe MP, Jaguar, and footballer Victor Wanyama.
