On Sunday, April 24, Citizen TV’s Rashid Abdalla and colleagues surprised Lulu Hassan during a live bulletin.
Lulu’s coworkers, led by Hassan Mugambi, Faiza Maganga, and Chemutai Goin, rushed the studio with a two-tier cake with Lulu’s image imprinted on the icing at the end of the 7pm bulletin hosted by the pair, according to a video.
As the cake was placed on the desk, the Swahili presenter was speechless. Goin brought in a second cake just as she finished thanking the crew.
“Oh my God! He has brought with him a cake. Thank you very much. I am very grateful,” As she wiped tears from her eyes, Lulu said.
Lulu and Goin sang her a birthday song, with her husband wishing her well on her one-year anniversary. Rashid asked his wife how old she was turning as they enjoyed a tet-a-tet.
“May the Lord add you more. How old are you turning?” he posed. “I am officially 38 years old today. At least I am not yet 40,” she teased as her and her colleagues burst into chuckles.
In addition, cast members of the Maria, Zora, and Sultana shows, including Yasmin Said and Sarah Hassan, sent birthday greetings to Lulu Hassan, the owner of Jiffy Pictures, a film production firm.
“Happy Birthday Lulu! You are an inspiration to so many people out there, and I just want to let you know that you are appreciated. I wish you great health, happiness and a lot more success in the coming year,” remarked Sarah Hassan.
The bulletin closed with Lulu, Rashid, and their colleagues cutting the cake and an image of the Swahili presenter alongside a cake, as part of Citizen TV and the Royal Media Services’ celebration of her birthday.
Lulu’s birthday celebration comes only a week after she and her three children surprised Rashid on live television on his birthday, April 17. As the performance came to a close, the host’s children appeared and sang him a birthday song.
Hassan Mugambi, another Citizen TV presenter, escorted the trio and delivered the cake to the journalist.
