Lawyer Ahmednassir celebrates sacked KU VC for standing for the truth: “He is Kenyan Hero”

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has reacted to the sacking of Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina over a piece of land he refused to donate to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Taking to his twitter account, Abdullahi celebrated the Wainaina as a kenyan hero who stood for the truth.

“Prof Paul Wainaina is a hero…a Kenyan hero. I salute you! Sacked because he spoke truth to power!” he said.

Prof Wainaina on Tuesday, July 12, disclosed that he had been forced to resign after a phone call he received amid the clash with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking at the school’s amphitheater, Wainaina disclosed that Education CS George Magoha had called to pressurize him to turn over 338 acres of university property, including the area that Uhuru had gifted to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Wainaina asserted that the Ministry of Education called them and informed them that the Cabinet had already decided which land parcels would be distributed.

“We were called by the Ministry of Education, by our CS, who affirmed that the Cabinet had already reached a decision on the parcels of land to be subdivided,” Wainaina said.

He added that the National Lands Commission was entrusted with creating titles and that the Ministry of Lands handled the subdivision.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) to be allocated 30 acres, Africa Centre for Disease Control, 10 acres, and the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital 108 acres,” he stated.

The remaining parcel was going to be used to relocate squatters, according to CS Farida Karoney’s Ministry of Land.

The VC maintained his position, which caused friction with the government, that neither he nor the university council had the jurisdiction to approve the transfer of land.

“What we are saying here is that the council does not have the mandate. I have said that I do not have the mandate as VC too but I want you to know that this is probably the last time I am talking to you as the VC,” he added.

President Uhuru Kenyatta harshly denounced the KU administration during the opening of the WHO emergency hub for allegedly impeding government projects by claiming public land.

Uhuru promised to deal with the leaders ‘swiftly and effectively’ before he leaves office.
