Police officer arrested for allegedly throwing a teargas on Martha Karua

A police officer has been detained in Kisii for reportedly firing a tear gas canister at a gathering that Martha Karua, a coalition candidate for Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya, attended.

According to National Police Service spokesman Bruno Shioso, “The mentioned officer is still in jail helping with further investigation to untangle all circumstances surrounding the occurrence.”

As soon as Ms. Karua took the stage to address the crowd and the tear gas canister blew up, the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition demonstration at Gusii stadium broke down.

Everyone fled to safety as a result of the incident, and police officers promptly escorted Ms. Karua to safety.

After the rally’s top leaders spoke to the crowd, Ms. Karua stood to speak when a tear gas canister exploded near the podium.

Unknown numbers of persons were hurt during the altercation, with ladies sat close to the dais suffering the majority of injuries.

After hearing rumors that one of the uniformed security personnel may have blasted the teargas canister, the locals later turned on the officers and began throwing stones at them.

The police officer wasn’t on duty and wasn’t formally assigned to travel to the stadium, according to sources within the force.
