A routine phone delivery turned into a horrifying tragedy after a 30-year-old father of three, Antony Otieno, was found brutally murdered at Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi.
Police believe the killing was a planned setup executed under the guise of a mobile phone purchase.
Antony’s body was discovered hidden under the bed, bound at both the head and legs, with a scarf tightly stuffed in his mouth.
The grim discovery was made inside house no. 14 on the fourth floor, hours after he left his workplace for what he thought was a standard delivery.
A Delivery Request That Turned Deadly
Earlier that morning, at around 10:30 a.m., Antony left a shop in town after receiving an order via WhatsApp. The request came from a man who claimed to be in Eldoret and used the number 0108577041. He instructed Antony to deliver the phone to his “brother,” Hillary, who was allegedly staying at Meridian Apartments—a temporary stay unit.
The arrangement was that the delivery would be confirmed before payment. It was the last message Antony responded to—and the last time he was seen alive.
The Chilling Discovery
Hours later, horror unfolded at the apartment complex. Inside house no. 14, Antony’s lifeless body lay under the bed. His hands and legs were tied with rope, a leso wrapped tightly around his mouth. Blood pooled beneath him.
A postmortem later revealed he died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Detectives recovered a knife, a metal rod believed to be the murder weapon, and shockingly, the same phone Antony had been delivering. His motorcycle, registration KMFH 161S, was still parked outside the building—untouched.
Suspicious Airbnb Booking Raises Questions
Investigations show that the apartment had been paid for just hours before the murder. Two unidentified men booked the unit, paying KSh 2,500 in cash.
The Airbnb host, Charity Muthoni Michoki, explained that she had received a message around 9:30 a.m. assuring her that the bill would be cleared later that evening. But when she went to check on the room, one of the men urged her to wait.
When she eventually entered—with the help of neighbors—she was met with a blood-splattered floor and a locked bedroom door. Inside lay Antony’s body.
Police Trace Phone Numbers, Probe Deepens
Detectives have since submitted the two phone numbers,
0108577041 and 0783041879, to Safaricom for identity tracing. Authorities believe the murder was a meticulously planned robbery or trap disguised as a high-value transaction.
The men who booked the apartment had vanished by the time the body was found.
Family Left Devastated as Hunt for Killers Intensifies
Antony leaves behind a grieving wife and three young children. Known for his hard work and dedication, his sudden and brutal death has shocked neighbors, friends, and colleagues.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the hunt for the killers continues.
What began as a simple delivery has now become a chilling reminder of rising criminal setups—and a family is left searching for justice.
