“Biashara ni ngumu” – Betty Kyalo in tears as Landlord auction her business

Former KTN News anchor Betty Kyalo revealed her Kilimani salon items have been put up for auction by Keysian Auctioneers after she failed to settle rent arrears, citing difficulties in running the business amidst a challenging economy.

“Obviously running a business in Kenya has become so difficult,” she revealed.

“Landlords don’t want to reduce rent and it becomes a huge burden on businesses that are struggling because of the economic slowdown. I let it go.”

She further revealed that a new barber shop she opened at Upper Hill begins its operations today.

“I am happier. I sleep better. My peace of mind is more important than a name. I’m good,” the former news anchor added.

“Also after two months of expansion, we reopen Aftershave by Flair, Upper Hill, La Baita. Gentlemen come through. I will be there today.”

Media personality Betty Kyallo is among the most successful media personality on and even off screen.

In the same year, the TV girl was named among 100 Most Influential Young Africans by Africa Youth Awards in collaboration with Avance Media.

In 2018, Ms Kyallo was voted as the Journalist of the Year by Kenyans on Twitter (K0T), defeating opposition from KTN news reporter Timothy Otieno, The Star Digital Editor Oliver Mathenge and Marvin Gakuyi.

In 2017, SOMA named Betty Kyallo as the Media Personality of the Year.

Betty Kyallo is the CEO and Founder of Flair By Betty, After Shave and BK Closet a cloth line she launched in 2021.

In 2018, Betty’s Flair by Betty won the Best Luxurious Beauty Parlour award, at Pwani Fashion Week Awards.

Betty Kyallo’s salon ‘Flair by Betty’ opened to the public on Saturday 14th April 2018 at the FCB Mihrab building on Lenana Road.

She later announced that she was moving her business venture to a more spacious and luxurious location.

In June 2020, Flair By Betty moved to Rose Avenue and its launch was graced by mama Ida Odinga.

The high-end salon offers the best salon experience in the country and has the who is who in Kenya as part of its clients.

After Shave by Flair

The high-end Barber shop located in Upper hill area was officially launched in January 2021.

Ms Kyallo documented all the happenings at the launch, with exquisite photos that were later shared on social media.

The “After Shave by Flair” official opening was graced by her family members, close friends and a few of her business partners.

BK Closet

Betty Kyallo announced the officially launch of her clothing line in March 2021.

“Finally! BK Closet is part of Betty’s entrepreneurial empire in the beauty and clothing sector.

Magic Business Centre

In February 2022, Betty presided over the official launch of Magic Business Center, along the Nairobi’s busy Ronald Ngala Street.

Ms Kyallo, who is a co-director at the commercial rental space, narrated that she had managed to rent out the premises within the span of one year.

“It’s a very big day for me and my co-director Rosemary here at Magic Business Center. We started last year, and as you can see these are eleven floors, five floors on one end and six floors on the other end. Two wings of young people doing business and empowering themselves.

“It is the most challenging business venture I have ever gotten into but right now when I look at all the young people doing business here, feeding their families, empowered, I just feel humbled and grateful. This is a commercial rental space and I’m used to doing all things related to beauty but I decided to change and try something different,” Betty Kyallo said.

During the launch, the Flair by Betty CEO revealed that she ventured into the business world as a student at the university and that she started by selling earrings.

The Summer House

In 2022, Betty ventured into the Hospitality industry with the launch of her restaurant dubbed The Summer House.

Speaking to Dennis Milimo in June 2022, Betty revealed that plans are underway to introduce her own makeup line in the Kenyan market and fans should be ready for the new venture.

“There are these big brands, but I want to show the young girls that you can have it all. Even with Kyallo Kulture and the businesses I do and even what she (Mercy) does, we want to show girls that you can have it all. Hii maneno ya sijui sponsor, sijui ati wakona mabuda, that’s nonsense. We can teach our girls to go for it because they actually can do it,” Betty explained

“With my makeup line, it’s going to be very affordable for young women… I want women to be confident and I want to be part of that process. It’s part of the culture in Kyallo Kulture,” Betty stated..
