President Ruto celebrates Eliud Kipchoge after breaking world record in Berlin Marathon

President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in celebrating Eliud Kipchoge’s new achievement.

Taking to his Twitter account, the president congratulated Eliud for breaking the world record again.

“The greatest has done it again; breaking the world record! Congratulations @EliudKipchoge for winning the Berlin Marathon for the fourth time. You are truly the King of the Marathon. #BerlinMarathon #WorldRecord,” he tweeted.

The Double Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge won the Berlin Marathon by setting a new record.

Kipchoge won the race in 2:01:09 over the grueling 26.2 miles at the Berlin Marathon

He beat his own World record by 30 seconds. Mark Korir came in second at 2:05.

Kipchoge knackered the first half of the race in 59:51, almost a minute less than what he had asked for in his pace notes; 60:50.

He had gone through the first 5km in 14:14 and cleared 10km in 28:23, well within his 2018 World Record.

Victory in Berlin has given Kipchoge a record-equalling fourth win, putting him level with Ethiopian great Haile Gebrselassie.

Kipchoge spoke highly of the Berlin course saying he has great memories there. He finished four races at the course and he expressed excitement about running there again.

He won in 2015, 2017 and 2018 editions of the Berlin marathon and placed second in the 2013 edition. Eliud Kipchoge during the #BerlinMarathon on Sunday, September 25.
