Nakuru Man admitted In Hospital After Chopping Of Testicles in Attempted Suicide

In what authorities believe was an attempted suicide, a man in Nakuru hacked off his testicles with a kitchen knife.

Mr Njoroge Waweru, 56, allegedly snatched the knife while his wife was in the bathroom, according to a police complaint viewed by Mkenya Leo.

“It was reported by one Ms Salome Wanja Njenga, a resident of Nairobi area of Kiamaina Ward about 1 kilometer South of this station that today at around 0730hrs while she was in the bathroom her husband took a kitchen knife and chopped off his testicles,” according to a report filed at Kiugoine Police Station in Nakuru County.

The lady hurried her husband to Maili Sita’s Esther Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and eventually referred to Nakuru County Referral Hospital.

Mr Waweru has yet to reveal what drove him to try to take his own life in this manner.

The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kiugoine Police Station, accompanied by a number of policemen, paid a visit to the scene.

According to the report, “a blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered as an exhibit.”

In the recent past, there has been an increase in the number of persons committing suicide in Kenya, which has drawn President Uhuru Kenyatta’s attention.

According to Mr George Kinoti of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the country has never seen such a high number of suicides as in the years 2021-2022.

“We have never recorded such a high number of suicides before and this is not only alarming but calls for urgent remedial measures,” Mr Kinoti said.
