Francis Gachuri is a broadcast journalist who currently works for Citizen TV Station at Royal Media Services. At Citizen TV, he was elevated to the positions of senior political analyst and senior reporter in 2018.

Without a doubt, his monthly compensation climbed by more than 50%, placing him among Kenya’s highest-paid journalists.

“I attended a mixed secondary school. That’s where I met my wife. We joined the high school on the same day, we were in the same house, same class and completed school in the same year, 1999. We were also house captains.

Interestingly, we did not date while we were in high school. In fact, we dated way back after I left campus in 2005. However, we kept in touch. We dated from 2006 to 2008 before settling on February 14th, 2009 as our wedding date.”

Farewell

Yesterday, Citizen TV anchors Yvonne Okwara and Lulu Hassan and other colleagues surprised Gachuri on Thursday, March 2, as he bid farewell to the station after 15 years.

RMS also held another farewell event for Gachuri after the News Gang show ended.

A collage video of his time at the station dating back to 2007 was played to detail his journey. From joining the station as a reporter to an anchor and political editor.

Gachuri reminisced about his time at the station and celebrated his colleagues who left a mark on his life.

“From September 1, 2007, it has been a great ride. With its fair share of ups and downs, tears, sweat and blood, great days and some not-so-good days, many star performances and a few poor shows that to me were more of experiences to learn, grow and improve.

“Today, March 2, 2023, I look back and can only smile and say, what a momentous journey. For 5,661 days I have been a member of the fantastic royal media family,” he stated.

Colleagues celebrate Gachuri

Kaikai described him as a very good employee, a very good worker.

“Somebody is just about to get a very good employee, a very good worker. A fine brain completely and a performer. I wish you the very best as you go out there,” Kaikai said.

Adding:

“And wherever you go always tell the truth and stick by the truth. The truth is not variable, whether we are on the set or another service. You’ll be the guy that will be saying things that others won’t say. I wish you the best and I know you will make that place a better place all the very best. We will miss you.”

Yvonne Okwara thanked him for contributing to the growth of her career at Citizen TV.

“I’m just really happy for you with this transition that you have. I am sad at the same time because I won’t get to see you every day. But they’re really lucky to have you. I hope they know that and I know you will do a fantastic job. So keep giving us all the communication that we need, and keep us safe.

“It would have been five years in May if you’d have stayed until then, that I have known you and you’ve become a really good friend and a really good mentor,” she spoke.

Gachuri is set to join the Ministry of Interior as the communications director.
