Kabogo blames Gachagua for frustrating leaders in Ruto’s camp

William Kabogo, a Kiambu gubernatorial contender, has attributed discontent within the Kenya Kwanza alliance on Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua’s appointment as William Ruto’s running mate, as well as his request for six-piece voting of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidates in Kiambu County, he claimed, has caused problems within the alliance.

“The selection of Gachagua as the running mate has caused some problems and if we do not say it, then we will be pretending. Many people may fear saying it but it is out there,” Kabogo stated.

On Monday night, the politician spoke with NTV.

Ruto and his allies, notably Chama Cha Kazi chairman Moses Kuria and Tujibebe Wakenya’s Kabogo, are set to clash after they boycotted a DP campaign gathering in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, over the weekend.

The two party leaders said that they would not participate in Kenya Kwanza campaigns unless their issues were resolved.

They claimed that when it came to planning meetings in Mt. Kenya, UDA kept them out.

Kabogo also warned the Kenya Kwanza team to be mindful of their regional campaign approach, claiming that the choice of Gachagua as the running mate had lowered their popularity in the region.

The former Kiambu Governor acknowledged a shift in public opinion.

The former Kiambu Governor admitted to a shift in popularity, claiming that the arrival of Martha Karua had boosted Azimio’s popularity in the Mt. Kenya region.

“To some extent the selection of Martha Karua has shifted the Mt Kenya vote but not by a big percentage. I can put it at 3 per cent,” Kabogo added.

Kabogo claimed that he will wait for deputy president Ruto to solve their issues, and that if he does not, he will withdraw from the alliance.

He did state, however, that he would not be joining the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
