Imeenda! NTV loses Twitter account with 4.3 million followers

One of Kenya’s top mainstream media outlets, NTV Kenya, has lost its impressive 4.3 million-follower Twitter account.

What caused the account to be lost was unknown at the time of publication.

An error message reading “This account doesn’t exist” was given when searching for NTV’s verified official Twitter handle.

Such a mistake, according to Twitter, happens when the account is suspended or canceled.

Following the most recent happenings, many Kenyans shared their amazement and confusion on social media.

The account served as a vital communication channel for NTV, allowing it to interact with viewers, give breaking news updates, and advertise its shows and events.

It is unclear whether the account would be reinstated or not as NTV has not yet made an official statement on the subject.

For any media company, losing a Twitter account with a large number of followers is a serious loss since it limits their capacity to engage with their audience and broaden their reach.

For media companies to disseminate breaking news and interact in real time with their audience, Twitter has become an essential tool.

The broadcaster’s web presence may be significantly impacted if they lose such a large audience.

With its nearly 2 million followers YouTube page, the station had a similar occurrence in February.

At the time, a message stating that NTV Kenya had been terminated appeared on the station’s YouTube channel. It said: “NTV Kenya has been terminated because we received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted.”

The media house, owned by the Nation Media Group franchise, however managed to recover the channel.

Naivas and Kabarak University have been the latest victims of cybercriminals.
