Diana Chepkemoi Gets Second Chance, Reports to Meru University

Diana Chepkemoi, who left for Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures, is finally formally back at Meru University following a very traumatic experience there.

Chepkemoi’s story went viral after photos of the one healthy girl appeared, showing an emaciated version of her.

After a spirited campaign, to bring her back, Chepkemoi finally landed in the country and received the good news that she will be accepted back at her old school.

The Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) proposed to re-enrol her as a student, hours after she returned to Kenya from Saudi Arabia following her viral distressing ordeal.

In a statement, the university Vice Chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo acknowledged that Chepkemoi is a student at the institution who had deferred her studies over financial challenges back in 2018.

Prof. Odhiambo, while regretting the events that befell Chepkemoi after she took a break, said the institution is willing to reinstate her, and give her a job under the work-study programme to enable her complete her studies while fending for herself.

“Ms Chepkemoi is a student at MUST. She was admitted to MUST during the 2017 – 2018 academic year on 31st August 2017 to study Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Management under the School of Agriculture and Food Science. Ms Chepkemoi studied the programme for the first semester of the academic year. She submitted a letter of deferral due to financial constraints on 29th August 2018. The request was granted,” stated the VC.

Reporting back to University

This morning, August 14, Odhiambo received Chepkemoi from the Bomet County Offices represented by CEC Cooperatives, Ms. Rose Langat.

“I thank Bomet County for fulfilling their promise and the Meru University family for taking me back. I now have the chance to pursue my career and live to my full potential.” Diana Chepkemoi.

Diana Chepkemoi has been offered free education, a job and accommodation by the Meru University of Science and Technology.
