Sauti Sol’s Bien: We are not interested in performing at political events

After Azimio La Umoja brought Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz to Kenya to perform at their political event at Kasarani, Kenyans became split.

As soon as he landed, he was picked by a chopper hired by Azimio La Umoja party ahead of his performance.

During the performance he also drummed up support for the former Prime minister, saying that the country believes in him and he is the next President of Kenya.

“Nataka nikuambie vijana wanakuamini sana, nchi inakuamaini sana, na wewe ndiye Rais unayefuata,” Diamond said.

He graced the stage donning a white vest and jeans accompanied by dancers also with white T-shirts.

This has left Kenyans divided, with majority wondering why Azimio ignored Kenyan artists.

A number of celebrities have broken their silence as they express displeasure.

Comedian Eric Omondi said:

“It’s a very sad day for the Kenyan Music Industry. First and foremost let me CONGRATULATE my brother @diamondplatnumz for Continuing to Raise the East African Flag. Kudos bro!!! Secondly it says a lot that on this very DEFINITIVE and HISTORIC Moment in our Nation non of our Local Musicians was found Worthy!!!”

Adding:

“I dont blame anyone but the Musicians!!! Unless our Musicians rise to the occasion and take their place, this will only get worse!!! LISTEN TO ME!!!! I have said this and I will say it again. PUT IN THE WORK!!! We need SHOWBIZ!!! Not these BORING, PREDICTABLE and COMPLACENT things you keep bombarding us with!!! WAKE UP!!!! WAKE UP!!! I am just waiting for PARLIAMENT to Resume I will do my part and ensure we pass the 75% PlayKE but YOU MUST WAKE UP!!! PERIOD!!!!”

Reacting to Eri’s post, Sauti Sol’s Bien said they are not interested in performing at political events:
“But we don’t want to be in political forums such as these 🙃”

Juliani termed Diamond’s performance at Kasarani as ‘Distasteful’.

“Diamond in Kasarani was distasteful. Any other Kenyan talent would have sufficed,” he wrote.

Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna was not left behind, as he claimed hate the Kenyan musicians, that is why, they invited artists from other countries to their rallies.

According to the controversial lawyer, this was unfair to many Kenyan artists who are available locally.

“The Kuzimia Team hate Kenyans. They chose to invite and pay Tanzanian artiste Diamond to their last rally at Kasarani Stadium instead of lifting up a Kenyan musician. Unpatriotic,” he tweeted.

Adding:

“Inviting Congolese crooner Mbilia Bel and Tanzanian artiste Diamond to political rallies was intended to attract youth to the events. Those who attended are not supporters of conman Raila Odinga. They went there to dance and watch. Raila will get 38% of total votes cast.”

Here are some other reactions from Kenyans online:

Mclin Tip: This will not make the stadium to be full Mr. Omollo.

Profesir Gachahi Wa Macharia: I hope not. Only Kenyan artists should perform in such a function. Even if they are all from luo nyanza, it’s okay n better than having a foreigner shine in such a critical function.

Janette Aketch: We don’t care we can be entertained by our Kenyan musicians and that’s enough. Deep state projects have enough millions to pay Dee, instead of promoting our own.

Namoni Francis: Tell them to bring R kelly, Beyonce, Rihanna, Burning spear, Glen Washington n every other musician we don’t give a damn n careless, we don’t want singers, we are here to vote for uncle willy, tukutane kwa debe on 9th.

Chaki Gloria: Good. After that Kenyan band, Sauti Sol tried to sue Azimio for using their song, it only makes sense for Azimio to bring a Tanzanian artist to perform at their rally. Let me not hear any Kenyan artists complain about Kenyan artists not being considered. Go Azimio!

Metroboomin KE: Right now Kenyans aren’t interested in any form of comedy, What we want is a true leader who ain’t scared of debates.

Fabian Rishy: You expect Raila to promote Kenyan talents…huku Nyayo anybody is welcomed to perform. promoting Kenyan talents.

Jean Ndambiri: Because we don’t have Kenyans artists ama?

Vickyy Vicky: Lol and Diamond is not cheap these same leaders are the ones promising Kenyans Heaven yet they can’t use that money to have local musicians come to perform???

Femi One and Milka Otieno are two additional performers in the Azimio La Umoja rally.
