Inside Details of Diamond’s Sh1.2 million per minute performance at Raila’s rally

Award-winning Tanzania star Diamond Platnumz on Saturday brought Kasarani Stadium to a standstill after giving fans at the Azimio rally an electrifying performance.

The WCB president entertained Azimio supporters for three minutes with his dancers on the stage performing his other hit songs Amaboko and Waah as the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga joined him on stage.

The Bongo star graced the stage wearing a white vest and jeans and his dancers wore white T-shirts.

The Tanzanian star is said to have received millions for the three-minute performance

The Jeje hitmaker was just in South Africa in the morning for his daughter Latifah Dangote alias Princess Tiffah’s 7th birthday before flying to Kenya accompanied by his daughter to the Azimio rally.

According to the sources Diamond Platnumz, was paid $100,000 (Sh11.9 million) for his roughly 10-minute appearance at the final Azimio rally, when he supported Raila Odinga.

As Mr. Odinga makes his fifth attempt to become president of Kenya, Diamond’s performance at Azimio’s final campaign event was intended to be a surprise in an effort to win over many young people.

The singer wasn’t involved in the planning for the previous demonstration until he was approached three weeks ago, at which point the conversation started.

As a result, he had to increase his rate card from the $70,000 (Ksh8.2 million) per hour concert outside of Tanzania that he typically charges. A fee of $100,000 was agreed upon after some protracted negotiations, and a contract was then signed.

Ali Hassan Joho, the outgoing governor of Mombasa, is credited with playing a significant role in the negotiations.

“Kindly this is off the record, but the conversation to have Diamond perform at Raila’s rally had been in the pipeline for three weeks. The performance was actually sponsored by a tycoon in Tanzania, I am not sure if the tycoon is a businessman or a politician but clearly it seems it’s someone well known to Azimio’s principals. However, what I’m sure of is that Diamond was paid $100,000 for the Kasarani performance,” Nation report reads.

The musician announced on his Instagram account on Thursday that he will be playing in Kenya on Saturday. The singer will begin a series of performances across Europe and Africa on August 20.

Many Kenyans on social media were divided on where he would be performing between Azimio’s and Kenya Kwanza rally, which was held at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on the same day, because he withheld many facts, allowing opportunity for speculation. Others questioned if he would perform at a formal event.

But it’s unclear if the businessman also paid for Diamond’s private flight into the nation and returned to South Africa.

Diamond was demanding $70,000 for a performance outside of Tanzania as of July 2021 and $50,000 for performances within of Bongo.

Sallam SK, his manager and business partner, revealed the information in an interview with Wasafi TV.
