Mejja: I can’t take money to sell my love for Genge, I started rapping in high school

Mejja, a Genge artist, has admitted that she turned down Bongo celebrities last year.

The rapper claimed he declined two opportunities to collaborate with talented singers because he wanted to take over Africa with his music in the conventional manner.

Mejja claimed that despite being compensated well, many people did not anticipate him to decline the offer.

“I can’t take money to sell my love for Genge. I started rapping in high school just because I wanted to listen to myself on a CD and not for money,” he said.

Speaking to Presenter Ali, Mejja said he refused the two Tanzanian collaborations because they were Amapiano.

“It’s not bad but I pride in Genge music,” he said.

“All songs are good but I appreciate my work. When you start mixing your genre, you are starting to admit defeat, and ‘Genge’ is life.

“Mejja added that if any artiste wants to feature him, they should come and work on a Gengetone song.”

Mejja is among the veteran musicians who are currently doing well.

He said he spends enough time on a single project.

“For example, in my latest song, ‘Kanairo Dating’, all the settings are done at different places,” he said.

“We keep moving around with over 25 people. ‘Tabia za Wakenya’, all the lines were shot in a different place, and that can show you that we put in a lot of work.”

Mejja said his purpose is to give his fans good content.

He is currently promoting his latest song ‘Kanairo Dating’, a song that speaks about dating different women.
