Two Kenyan Journalists elected to International Organisation

Caroline Jerotich Kimutai and Agnes Kalekye Nguna, both Kenyan journalists, have been elected to the Board of Directors of the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

WAN-Annual IFRA’s General Meeting on June 17 elected Kimutai, the Managing Editor in Charge of the Standard Media Group’s Digital Division, and Nguna, the Chief Operating Officer of Radio Africa Group Limited.

Vincent Peyregne, the organization’s Chief Executive Officer, made the statement, welcoming the new board members and stating that it was in keeping with the organization’s strategic goal for diversity and inclusion.

Caroline Kimutai is the Managing Editor of the Standard Media Group’s digital section.

“Today’s announcement advances our ongoing efforts to expand the expertise and diversity of our Board and confirms that a growing number of women are taking up senior positions in the media. However, we are far from the parity we aspire to as an industry,” Peyregne stated.

Publishers will be able to draw into the experience of other specialists to solve issues in the media sector, according to Nguna.

More women will be included in media leadership as a result of WAN-training IRFA’s and providing them with essential professional skills, according to the Vice Chairperson of the Media Owners Association.

Kimutai and Nguna were elected alongside nine other members who will be responsible for ensuring that WAN-IFRA has the necessary skills and experience to support future advances in various parts of the globe.

The World Association of Newspapers and Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is a global press organization whose aim is to preserve the rights of journalists and publishers around the world to operate independent media.
