Citizen TV Journalist Martin Kosgey Launches Own Radio Station As Side Hustle
A popular Citizen TV correspondent has launched his own radio station, Nenyon FM that has airing its programs in Rift Valley.
Martin Kosgey is now the town’s newest media entrepreneur.
In an exclusive interview with Kenyans, on Thursday, May 26, Kosgey revealed that the Kalenjin-language station based in Kericho has received two frequencies from the Communications Authority of Kenya, 104.3 FM and 104.2 FM (CAK).
The station, which began broadcasting in April, serves Rift Valley counties and has a daily listenership of 1.2 million people, according to its management.
Mzungu Mwafrika and Faith Chebwogen, both local radio personalities, are among the eight journalists Kosgey has hired to manage the 24-hour commercial station.
Collo Mtuguyaz, Jacktino 254, Benard Ngeno, Denissto Deno, Aphayo Chepkey, and others are among the station’s other presenters.
Because the station ‘essentially serves Rift Valley’s Kalenjin people,’ its target audience comprises residents of Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Nakuru, and Narok counties. Kosgey wants the station to be a market leader in the local news industry.
The station’s studio features cutting-edge broadcast technology and its emblem, a candy red think-bubble with yellow horizontal lines, is inscribed on the walls.
The upbeat reporter, on the other hand, remarked that his voyage had just just began and that he needed’more studio equipment so that better transmissions could be obtained.’
Nenyon FM has now been gazetted as a commercial free-to-air radio station by CAK, which is owned entirely by Kosgey. His career as a reporter began in 2013 when he joined KTN (a Standard Group company) as a cameraman before decamping to Citizen TV as a correspondent in 2018.
Later, Kosgey started reselling used cars and utilized some of his profits to buy technical radio equipment.
In the future, he plans to open the Nenyon TV station.
