Gladys Wanga Rescues Form One Student Who Went To School With Bible Only

Gladys Wanga, a woman representative from Homa Bay, has rescued a destitute Form One student who arrived at Orero High School Boys with a Bible and a few belongings.

Joseph Odhiambo, who got 364 in the 2021 KCPE, won hearts by demonstrating his commitment to learning at all costs.

Wanga claimed she was affected by his humble origins and paid a visit to the school to settle his fees after his story went viral.

“Joseph yesterday walked to Orero Boys with just a Bible, having been called to join, but his parents had nothing. His journey of faith moved me, and today I visited Orero and paid his fees in full.

I will take care of him all his years as I would, Kayo, my son. May God light his path, and congratulations to Orero for topping the charts in Homabay and Nyanza,” Wanga posted on her social media handles.

On Thursday, May 12, Joseph, an aspiring smart student, arrived at the school resolved to follow his education aspirations despite the lack of funds.

“Yesterday, I did some manual work for someone, and he handed me KSh 400. I used KSh 100 to buy socks. Then, I spent the rest of the cash to board a boda boda to school,” Joseph in a video shared by LTV Kenya.

He asked the school’s management to admit him saying his parents were poor and could not afford to educate him.

“I don’t know what to do. If I am sent home, it means I won’t get a chance to learn as no one will pay my fees. We’re poor. I earlier made bricks for someone and used the proceeds to buy a dictionary, log table, and a hymn book. I purchased a mathematical set before I did my KCPE exams. My grandmother gave me a Bible and a calculator.”
