How Fraudsters Are Minting Millions From Conning Unsuspecting William Ruto’s Supporters

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party secretary general Veronica Maina has released a statement flagging an ongoing scam targetting its members and Deputy President William Ruto’s supporters.

According to the statement signed by Maina, the fraudsters were exposed to be calling unsuspecting Kenyans to contribute funds to support party activities and campaigns.

The secretary general noted that they had received numerous complaints and the party’s administrators traced three phone numbers involved in the scheme.

“This is to inform you that the contacts listed below do not belong to the UDA party but to conmen who have in the last few days been fraudulently obtaining or attempting to obtain funds from innocent Kenyans. They include 0722210031, 0745021896 and 0726482097,” she said.

Maina stressed that the party does not charge its members to take part in its activities or ask them for money.

The SG said that the party only communicates with its members via the methods that are designated as official on the website. UDA notified the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the problem (DCI).

In recent years, the number of con games aimed at politicians and their supporters has skyrocketed, with fraudsters disguising themselves as party officials and politicians’ assistants to defraud Kenyans of their hard-earned money.

Kenyans who have registered their numbers with political parties make up the majority of individuals who are targeted.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) cautioned candidates against a con group that claimed to be able to provide them with falsified certificates in exchange for a price in April of this year.

“We have received a few complaints on incidences where some fraudulent persons are trying to extort money from ODM candidates with promises of issuing them with the party nomination certificates.

This is to inform all our candidates not to pay anyone for their ODM certificate. “Please report any individual who asks you to pay money for an ODM certificate,” ODM Party said.
