Bishop Margret Wanjiru Concedes Defeat, Urges Edwin Sifuna Serve Nairobians Equally 

Celebrated bishop and politician, Margret Wanjiru, has conceded defeat to Edwin Sifuna in the Nairobi Senatorial seat.

Wanjiru, who vied under the UDA ticket, garnered 554091 votes, coming second after Sifuna who won 716,876 votes.

Wanjiru took to her Facebook page on Sunday 14th August to relay a conceding message to her fans.

She acknowledged that she had put up a vibrant campaign to win the seat but was defeated by Sifuna. She went ahead to congratulate Sifuna and urged him to serve Nairobi residents equally.

She went on to congratulate the governor-elect, Johnson Sakaja, and the woman rep-elect, Esther Passaris. She also congratulated the candidates who won the member of county assembly seats.

Her post read,

“We put up a vibrant campaign in Nairobi, but our challenger Edwin Sifuna carried the day. We congratulate him and urge him to serve all our residents equally. “I would also like to congratulate all the other candidates who were successful in the poll, from MCAs, MPs, Woman Representative Esther M Passaris, and governor-elect Sakaja Johnson. Senator Sakaja will be replaced by Sifuna, who will take over as Nairobi’s governor from the City Hall.”

Wanjiru, popularly known as Mama na Kazi, joined politics in 2007 when she was elected as the member of parliament of the Starehe Constituency after defeating Maina Kamanda in the 2007 general elections.

She served as the assistant minister for Housing and Planning from 2010 to 2013 in the joint government of President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In the August 2022 elections, Wanjiru had initially opted to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat before stepping down in favor of Johnson Sakaja.

Other candidates that lot in the senatorial race include Jacinta Wambui Kamau, Julie Wanjiru Kabogo, and William Wahome Kabera
