Eldoret Bypass finally completed for Sh9.6 bn, more than original cost of Sh5.6bn

After five years of construction, the Sh9.6 billion Eldoret Southern Bypass is ready for commissioning.

Construction cost Sh5.6 billion, while compensation for around 1,000 residents displaced by the bypass cost another Sh4 billion.

At Ngeria, Kapseret, and Leseru, it has three overpass interlinks. The African Development Bank provided the bulk of the project’s funding.

After touring the project, government spokesman Cyrus Oguna and Uasin Gishu county commissioner Stephen Kihara stated that the contractors were putting the finishing touches on it in preparation for commissioning.

According to Oguna, “The road will ease congestion in Eldoret town and enable quick movement of goods and people through Eldoret.”
