Police arrest 9-year-old boy driving his sister to school in Athi River

A 9-year-old driver and traffic police officers were involved in a car chase along Mombasa Road on Wednesday morning, according to reports received by the news desk.

The child, who was reportedly driving his father’s automobile while wearing a school uniform, attracted the notice of traffic police officials.

When the cops ordered the underage driver to stop, the Toyota Passo sped up toward the Athi River instead.

The young youngster was riding in the automobile with his father, 40, and sister, 7.

The police were able to stop the car just as it was about to enter the school where the two students are enrolled, according to Athi River Base Commander Agnes Makau.

“Our officers managed to corner the boy, who was driving at high speed, before he went past the school gate. He was driving dangerously and he had not fastened the safety belt,” the police boss told the media.

The father, who was later revealed to be a local contractor, was taken into custody alongside his kids as a result of the event.

Later, the youngsters were driven to school by police in a car.

The parent informed the police that his kid had been a licensed driver for the previous two years and enjoyed driving fast.

“I taught him how to drive. I had hired a car from a friend to run some errands today. I know it’s dangerous but it happened,” he said.

However, the head of the Athi River Police warned parents against letting their young children drive because it’s illegal and puts other motorists in danger.
