Popular Comedian behind ‘Kata simu tupo site” phrase passes away

Sadly, Mzee Mjegeje, also known as Umar Lahbedi Issa, a well-known comedian in Tanzania, has passed away.

The comedian, who became well-known for saying “Kata simu nipo site,” died on March 20, 2024, while undergoing treatment at the Mwananyamala Hospital in Dar es Salaam, according to information that reached our entertainment desk from Tanzania.

What the comedian was ill with, though, is still unknown.

The comedian became popular over his viral phrase ‘Kata Simu, Nipo Site” that was being used by Netizens across East Africa.

He was later featured in several songs due to his popularity on social media. He had worked with singer Harmonize and other notable celebrities in Tanzania.

Just the other day, he had mentioned that his dream was to work with WCB President Diamond Platnumz.
