A fresh wave of online disruptions swept across the internet early Tuesday morning as Cloudflare—one of the world’s largest web infrastructure providers—experienced a significant technical issue that triggered outages across multiple platforms.

Among the most affected was X (formerly Twitter), where thousands of users flocked to DownDetector to report problems.

According to early reports, the outage began around 6:00 AM ET, when Cloudflare’s own support portal provider first showed signs of instability. The impact quickly rippled outward, affecting major websites and services that rely on Cloudflare’s global network to stay online.

Social media platform X was among the first to feel the slowdown and accessibility issues, followed closely by popular online games such as League of Legends, whose players also reported difficulties via DownDetector.

Cloudflare, known for powering large portions of the internet through its content delivery network (CDN) and security systems, confirmed the outage on its official status page. However, even its own status site appeared partially broken, loading without standard CSS styling—another indicator of the depth of the issue.

While the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, Cloudflare had a scheduled maintenance window at its SCL (Santiago) data center around the same time. It is not yet confirmed whether this maintenance is directly related to the disruption.

By 7:03 AM ET, Cloudflare stated that its teams were “continuing to investigate the issue,” with engineers working to restore normal functionality across its global network.

This incident marks yet another reminder of how dependent the modern internet is on infrastructure providers like Cloudflare—where a single glitch can temporarily destabilize some of the world’s most visited platforms.

Cloudflare is expected to release a full post-incident report once the problem is fully resolved.
