Family of four buried alive by landslides in Narok

A mudslide that ravaged Torokiat Village in Narok County on Monday night resulted in the home of a family of four being buried alive.

It is reported that the mudslide happened after the area saw a lot of rain over night. Sadly, everyone in the family was home at the time.

A 35-year-old father, his 24-year-old wife, and their two 3- and 5-year-old children perished in the tragedy, making up the family of four.

‘It was reported by members of the public that due to heavy rain throughout the night, mudslides occurred at unknown time of the night and caused death to 4 residents members of the same family at Torokiat Market,” a police report capturing the incident in detail read.

However, at the time of publishing this article, efforts to recover the bodies from the rubble were still ongoing.

Images captured from the scene depicted the house built on a slope having slipped down the valley.

The house also appeared to be a shell of its former self with different materials used to construct it having scattered as a result of the damage.

In a separate incident caused by the heavy rains, a bus ferrying 51 passengers was swept away by floods along the Nairobi-Garissa Highway still on Monday night.

According to the Kenyan Red Cross, all the passengers were rescued.

Following the heavy rains experienced in the country, Kenyans have been warned to evacuate from areas prone to disasters.

On Tuesday 9, the government through the National Disaster Operation issued a notice for residents living in low areas of Tana River, Garissa and Lamu counties to evacuate over possible flooding.

The government issued the alert explaining that the Seven Folks Dam was likely to flood following heavy downpour in the Aberdares and Nyambene Hills.
