At last, the groom whose wedding at Kapsoyo in Bomet County on Saturday was called off has spoken out.
The 30-year-old Amos Rono declared that he was no longer going to marry Nelly Chepkoech. Rono revealed the events and accused his wife of being untrustworthy and closed off to him.
“My plans to wed Nelly Chepkoech are over because she was not sincere. She only waited until the last minute to open up and declare she was dating another man. She had not fully decided on marrying me,” Rono said.
Rono said that on Thursday afternoon, Chepkoech informed the Tenwek Area Director of Africa Gospel Church, Reverend Reuben Koech, that she was not prepared to move forward with the wedding.
“She broke the news through a text message to Rev Koech that she needed time to decide. Her allegation that the church postponed the wedding is a big lie,” said Rono.
The groom, who spoke to The Standard at his home in Kapsoyo, said Chepkoech, at first, claimed she was ‘still young and not ready to settle down’.
But after being interrogated further, she revealed she had another man and was not fully decided on walking down the aisle with him.
“I met her on Thursday in Bomet town when we were processing clearance for the marriage certificate. Later that day, she wrote the text and an emergency meeting was called by the reverend who was supposed to preside over our wedding. It is during the meeting that she broke the news,” said Rono.
Rono now says he has decided to end the relationship and would no longer wish to marry her.
“It is over between the two of us and I would want to wish her all the best. We enjoyed a good relationship and I was shocked that she had not told me she had another man in her life. When I proposed to her, she accepted and we settled down on planning our wedding,” said Rono.
“She convinced me that we should not hold a pre-wedding on grounds of financial constraints, but instead organized a farewell at her local church in our absence,” said Rono.
It’s over, the groom in the failed Bomet wedding tells the bride.

Amos Rono’s mother speaks
Sara Nyigei, Rono’s mother, stated that although Chepkoech’s disclosure was heartbreaking, they decided to let her go.
“As a family, we have accepted her decision. She is no longer welcome as one of us in this family; we wish her all the best. When she first came, we welcomed her with open arms and we could not wait to see her marry my son but she has let us down and we will not accept to accommodate him here again.”
“I can imagine how disruptive and chaotic their marriage would have been had she pretended and proceeded with the wedding,” she said.
“As we speak, we have paid dowry for her, and I don’t think we let Chepkoech’s family down in whatever way,” she said.
“We are releasing her with good hearts and will not hold any grudge against her and their family.”
