Kericho county MCAs walk out of Ruto event after being labelled ‘security threat’

Kericho County Assembly (MCA) members walked out on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, during an event attended by President William Ruto.

According to a local media outlet, the MCAs claimed they were told to leave because they posed a’security threat’ to Ruto, who had yet to arrive.

The President is in Kericho to commission the multibillion-dollar Duka Moja and Kimugu water treatment projects.

“We were told that since we are a security threat we move outside, and so we are moving out so that we give them space,” one of the MCAs told the local media house.

The project which cost Ksh1.2 billion was funded by the National government and Lake Victoria South water works.

It is projected to produce 13 million litres of water per day. The waterworks are expected to supply fresh clean water to over 200,000 households and help reduce water shortage in the region.

“The 50km distribution pipeline covers the areas of Kapsoit-Borborwet, Kapcheptoror-Kaptebeswet, Kakiptui, Kisumu road-Kapsoit and Kipchimchim-Ainamoi.”
