Not yet over! 35 witnesses set to testify over Jeff Mwathi’s death

Thirty-five witnesses are expected to testify at the inquest into Jeff Mwathi’s untimely death at the home of famed DJ Faxto.

The inquest, which seeks to throw light on the circumstances behind Mwathi’s death, is set to shed light on an incident that has left many questions unanswered.

The inquiry will begin on August 10, 2023, according to the family.

Each witness is anticipated to contribute critical insights and information that might help to solve the mystery of Mwathi’s death.

Their testimony will be critical in building an accurate narrative and identifying any probable culprits or reasons of the tragic tragedy.

Following receipt of the investigation’s report, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, requested an inquest.

DJ Fatxo’s lawyer Duncan Okatch claimed a probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had found no evidence to linking the entertainer to Mwathi’s death.

The advocate further added that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had agreed with the DCI’s findings, and instead recommended that an inquest commence into the incident.

“We are pleased to say that we now know that the Director of Public Prosecutions has indeed looked into the matter and has agreed with the findings and recommendations of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, namely that there is not a single shred or iota of evidence to suggest any remote criminal culpability or suspicion on the part of our client,” said Okatch.

“In fact, it is very clear that our client was not even in his house at the material time when his friend Jeff Mwathi met his death.”

DJ Fatxo, in a subsequent statement posted on social media, also sought to absolve himself from blame over Mwathi’s death, noting that the allegations that were levelled towards him – mostly on social media – caused him deep pain.

He went ahead to urge social media users to always base their sentiments on facts and hearsay so that they may not unknowingly bring down an innocent person.

“I want to take this opportunity to clear my name and to assure you all that I have been found not guilty after thorough investigations by the DCI detectives and the ODPP. While I am relieved to have this behind me, I know that there are still people who may be struggling with feelings of anger, frustration, and disappointment,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I want to use this situation to remind all of us of the importance of not jumping to conclusions or cyberbullying anyone based on mere accusations or hearsay stories. As many of you know, I have gone through a very difficult period both emotionally and physically, and I know firsthand how damaging and hurtful it can be to be on the receiving end of false accusations and cyberbullying.”

The Mugithi star further preached compassion, understanding, and respect to online interactions, so as to facilitate both individual and community growth.
