Junet Mohammed plays Ruto’s audio clip confessing how he almost slapped Uhuru

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed asserted that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s relationship with Vice President William Ruto had deteriorated before the Head of State reached a truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The legislator aired an audio tape of the second-in-command reportedly revealing how he nearly smacked his boss in 2017 while speaking at an Azimio One Kenya coalition gathering in Homa Bay County.

Ruto is heard in the 90-second tape claiming that after Uhuru lost a petition at the Supreme Court in 2017, he pressured him to run in the subsequent presidential election.

On Friday, July 1, 2022, the presidential candidate for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance is said to have addressed elders from the Kikuyu community who paid him a visit.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential flag bearer was reportedly addressing elders from the Kikuyu community who paid him a visit on Friday, July 1, 2022, at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.

The DP said he was involved in a heated argument that nearly degenerated into a physical confrontation with the president in State House on September 1, 2017.

Apparently, this was after Uhuru suggested that he was not keen on taking part in the repeat poll ordered by the seven-judge bench led by retired Chief Justice David Maraga.

Ruto said it took a lot of prodding to have the president participate in the polls against Raila, who had challenged Jubilee’s victory citing election irregularities

“So, ndiyo huyo… Oh, sasa, hii maneno, sijui nini, mimi sitaki, mimi nataki kuenda Ichaweri, sasa mimi sitaki, wacha tuachane na hii kitu.” (Here is the President and he says he is not keen on participating in the repeat presidential election and that he wants to go to Ichaweri (his home village in Kiambu County), that we should abandon this thing,” Ruto is heard saying.

“Mimi nikamwangalia, nikamwambia ‘wewe’! Ni vile tu nilikua na heshima, ningemchapa kofi. Ati sisi tuache?” (I looked at him and told him ‘you!’ It’s only that I was being respectful, I would have slapped him. How could we just quit?)
