Liz Wanyoike: I left my marriage with a handbag and a car only after being blocked at the gate.

Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) founder, Liz Wanyoike, has opened up on her marriage life and how it all ended.

Speaking to Monica Kagoni, the businesswoman narrated how her marriage of 25 years ended with just a few words.

According to Liz, she got married at a young age after getting pregnant for the man who also doubled up as her boss.

She disclosed the man had parted ways with his previous wife and was living with their three children.

“I married a man who had another wife with three children. He had parted ways with his first wife. I got pregnant for him before he married me. He paid my dowry and we were very okay even with my step children,” she told Kagoni.

The entrepreneur said they had invested a lot with her ex-husband even though he was not so much into business.

She said they parted ways because they did not know each other well and after much trying, had no choice but to end their years’ union.

“We did not have the same interests. I never had time to socialise. We tried as much as possible. He was a good man and if I were to get married again, I would choose him,” she said.

The mother of two said she did not walk out and recalls vividly the day she came home and was denied entry.

She painfully said she left her marriage with only a handbag and the car she was driving. Luckily for her, it was registered in her name.

“I did not walk out. We got to a point and he felt that we could not continue. One day I came home and was not allowed through the gate. I tried pleading but no one would here me. I only had my handbag and a car which was in my name. I left with nothing,” added Liz.

The businesswoman said when she tried fighting for her matrimonial property, her hubby played her.

He showed up in court with a marriage certificate from his previous marriage and said that Lizz was only a girlfriend.

“When I went to court to fight for my matrimonial property, my late ex-husband showed up in court with a marriage certificate from his previous marriage. He told the court that I was only a girlfriend,” she said painfully.
