“I don’t slap women”: Ruto reacts to CS Wamalwa’s claims he wanted to slap him

William Ruto, a Kwanza presidential contender in Kenya, disputed Eugene Wamalwa’s assertion that he nearly slapped him.

When Wamalwa led a team from Western Kenya to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi in 2018, Wamalwa stated Ruto was upset with him.

Speaking at the Azimio la Umoja rally in Kakamega’s Bukhungu stadium, the CS said that Ruto objected to the meeting because he had not been informed about it and came dangerously close to beating him up.

“The DP was very furious asking why I took the Luhya leaders to the president without his consent. He told me to leave his government and deliver a resignation. Karibu nipate slap ya huyo jamaa. Lakini angeteleza iniguze ningempa uppercut moja (He almost slapped me but had he dared, I could have responded with an uppercut) .”

While campaigning in Wamalwa’s home county of Trans-Nzoia, Ruto angrily refuted the CS’s assertion.

The presidential candidate responded by making the outrageous claim that men are not permitted to slap women in his culture.

“I saw another man from here (Wamalwa) I granted him a cabinet secretary position. He said I wanted to slap him, let me tell him, in my culture, we are not allowed to slap women. We respect ladies,” stated Ruto.

Adding:
“Mwambieni awache mdomo mrefu. Bila mimi angekuwa anatembea barabarani. Serikali ni mimi ndio niliunda na Uhuru Kenyatta. Mimi ndio nimemtoa kwa mtaro nikampatia kazi ya wazizi.”
