Where is the 2017 KCPE top student, Goldalyn Kakuya?

Goldalyn Kakuya made headlines in 2017 after scoring 455 points in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Exam.

Kenyans who remembered her waited to hear her name as Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha announced the 2021 KCSE results. That did not occur.

Truth is, Kakuya, was admitted to Kenya High School, and did not take the 2021 KCSE.

The 2017 KCPE champion joined Brookhouse School after switching from the 8-4-4 system to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Kakuya joined Brookhouse in 2019 after receiving a scholarship from First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for her outstanding performance.

The top student left Kenya High and enrolled in Year 10, which was the equivalent of the class she was in under the 8-4-4 system.

Even in the new IGCSE system, she maintained her academic excellence.

She recently graduated from Brookhouse School after completing her Form Six at the prestigious institution.

Kakuya was among the top students in her class having attained an A* (star).

In a statement by nominated Senator, Isaac Mwaura, dated Friday, June 10, the lawmaker stated that the top student expressed desires to study medicine outside the country after her graduation.

“Goldalyn Kakuya has finally graduated from Form Six at Brookhouse Karen after five years. She emerged top in 2017’s KCPE being the first with albinism in the country to attain this big feat.

“She got an A* (star) and intends to study medicine at a top university abroad,” he stated.

Kakuya received a scholarship to join the international school in 2019 from First Lady Margaret Kenyatta who stated that the sponsorship would cover all academic costs at the institution.

This was after the KCPE top student met with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House.

“The First Lady officially opened a library and commissioned a scholarship programme at Brookhouse School, Runda Campus. Top candidates in 2017 and 2018 KCPE Goldalyn Tanga and Olive Wachira were awarded the Margaret Kenyatta Scholarship for their secondary education in the school,” read the statement by State House then.

Prior to joining Brookhouse, Kakuya was studying at Kenya High School and had just completed Form One.

In 2020, Kakuya made headlines after her results emerged on social media. She had scored 8 A*s and two As in the IGCSE exams.

The head teacher, Eric Mulindi, stated that Kakuya was among their top performers, crediting her exemplary performance to the hard work and discipline at the institution.

“We are proud of our students as they set off on the next step of their journeys. These results would not have been possible without the dedication of our teaching staff, who consistently go above and beyond for our students,” stated Mulindi.
