Kenyan photographer makes history after landing lucrative job at US – White House
Polly Irungu, a photographer of Kenyan descent, has been chosen to serve as Kamala Harris’s office’s first photo editor.
Irungu announced the information on Friday, July 29, saying she was looking forward to taking on the new position.
She said that President Joe Biden’s administration had appointed her as a sign of confidence in her extraordinary talent.
“New chapter, I’m excited to announce that I’m the first official Photo Editor for the Office of the Vice President to the Biden-Harris Administration. Honoured and grateful is an understatement,” she shared.
Irungu, a Nairobi native, will be in charge of processing pictures for Biden’s assistant.
Following her announcement, Kenyans congratulated her on the new achievement on social media.
Irungu was formerly employed by the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF), where she had worked since April of this year.
She has also had positions with other major companies like LinkedIn and We Transfer.
Several major media outlets, including The New York Times, Reuters, BBC News, CNN, the Washington Post, BuzzFeed, and CNN, have highlighted some of her work.
She is also the creator of Black Women Photographers (BWP), a website that features the work of more than 1000 black photographers from around the globe.
