The rise and fall of Jackie Maribe: She started her career as a Gardener

Media personality Jacque Maribe was a well-liked news anchor who worked in a position that many journalists aspire to: a prime-time news anchor with a six-figure income.

But her world has crumbled around her, and her reputation is at an all-time low. Maribe, alongside her ex-boyfriend Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu, are currently in court, facing serious murder accusations that might result in her life imprisonment.

Maribe and her Ex-lover Jowie in court

Kimani was until her death based in Juba, South Sudan but had briefly returned home when she was found dead at her Kilimani apartment, with her throat slit. The ongoing trial’s witnesses have linked Maribe and Jowie, for direct involvement in the brutal killing.

Aside from this, what can we learn from Maribe’s life journey?

Maribe became a well-known figure in the media, after progressing from a shy young girl who attended State House Girls High School and then went on to study journalism at the University of Nairobi.

She demonstrated to many young women that success in the media industry is still possible. She was a well-respected journalist and well-known media personality.

Career

Maribe was at the pinnacle of her career as a well-known journalist and media figure, before the sudden fall.

She began her career as an actress in the Constant Gardener in 2005, and afterwards joined K24 TV as a Senior Political Reporter in 2009, where she remained till December 2011.

After leaving K24, she joined the Radio Africa Group’s KISS TV as a Political Affairs Reporter until October 2012, when she moved to the Royal Media Group’s Citizen TV as a Political Affairs Reporter, where she became a member of the 9pm news team and began hosting prime time news.

Maribe’s Fall

For the last 4 years, Maribe has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, after being linked to Monica Kimani murder which prompted her employer to fire her.

However, this past week, she has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, leading to her employer sending her on compulsory paid leave, until she handles her legal issues.

Comeback

In 2020, Maribe announced her comeback in media, stating that she would bring raw conversations, political and in-depth inspiration through her new show, The Hot Seat.

She further disclosed that she had been preparing to launch the show for a couple of months, adding that she was excited it was finally happening.

Maribe has also been hosting different events in clubs in order to sustain her name, but it seems nothing has working for her.

In an attempt to try her luck in politics, she announced in 2021 that she was going to vie for Murang’a Woman Representative seat. Unfortunately, this never came to be.

Relationship

A career that took her years to build came crushing down in a matter of days in the name of passion and love. This is after getting into a romantic relationship with Jowie Irungu.

One question that has risen from the Jacque Maribe saga is “why in the world a respected TV journalist would allow herself to be used the way she did?”

As a journalist you would think she would have known better and kept her circle consisting of people who wouldn’t ruin her career.
