Journalist Larry Madowo’s Special Act That Changed MC Jessy’s Life
Comedian Jasper Muthomi, often known as MC Jessy, is one of the few people in Kenya who has reached the peak of the comic scene.
In an interview with a publisher in 2018, Jessy said that his career took a positive turn while he was an intern at Standard Media Group on a monthly pay of Ksh 5,000.
He met Larry Madowo, a business writer at the time, who was in charge of training the interns to understand how the newsroom worked.

“As an intern, not many people talk to you, but Larry Madowo had been tasked with training me. He was the only one who talked to me,” the thespian stated.
Jesse, on the other hand, suffered from a severe lack of confidence as a result of his inability to adequately express himself in English, the newsroom’s primary language.
“Madowo used to speak so much English when training us. I couldn’t bring myself to talk much in the newsroom because I did not understand English well. I also had a very thick Meru accent,” he revealed.
With time, however, he sat with Madowo as he went about his duties until he developed confidence and a proper grip on his communication skills.
“Due to my new confidence, I started hanging out with some of the greatest journalists at the time including John Allan Namu, Janet Mbugua, and Moha Jicho Pevu, where I further developed my speaking skills and confidence,” he narrated.
Jesse eventually left KTN to fully concentrate on comedy, but things were not working well for him.
“Those were the lowest moments of my life. I had lost my chance to become a news anchor, and comedy was not working for me. I was making jokes but people did not find them funny. I was getting out of every comedy audition a disappointed man,” he recalled.
He then encountered Daniel Ndambuki (Churchill), whom he had desired to meet for a long time, in circumstances he had never anticipated or even planned for.
“I had given up, and I decided to go to the washrooms just to wash my hands one day. It was then that Churchill came in. I had worked with him before in the In Tru Kalas show where I was an extra, but he could not remember me. I had looked forward to meeting him for a long time,” he revealed.
Jesse narrated that a conversation ensued in the bathroom then, and having boosted his confidence with time, it landed him a job and ended up captaining the highly acclaimed Churchill Raw on which aired on Thursdays.
