William Ruto promises to announce new affordable fertiliser prices next week after swearing-in

President-elect William Ruto has promised to announce new fertiliser prices next week, after taking the oath of office.

The incoming president claimed to have met with players in the agriculture industry for three days during remarks he made at a church service on Sunday in Meru County.

“We have many tea farmers, and the price of fertiliser is now around Ksh 6,000. I have held talks with people from the Ministry of Agriculture and I will announce new fertiliser prices that will be subsidised next week,” he said.

Residents of Meru were informed by Ruto that his administration will begin reforming the agriculture industry the following week.

In addition, the president-elect warned Kenyans to anticipate a decrease in Unga prices as a result of fertiliser subsidies.

“I have held talks with the Ministry of Agriculture to address the price of Unga. Next week, I will announce to our farmers. Unga prices will start going down,” he said.

The prices of Unga went high in August after the Government ended its subsidy scheme with millers that started in July.

Then, outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta had issued a decree that a 2KG of Unga should drop from Ksh. 205 to Ksh. 100.
