William Ruto: I will provide free internet calls if elected

If William Ruto wins the August elections, the Kenyan Kwanza party has vowed to provide free internet access nationwide and free calls to all Kenyans.

The DP stated that whenever he assumes power, he intends to implement last mile internet access modeled after Jubilee’s last mile power connectivity initiative.

“Just like we had last mile for power, we will now introduce last mile for internet. Many people are struggling here and there to get bundles. You will no longer need bundles to make calls. Calls will be free,” Ruto said.

He gave a speech on Wednesday in Kiambu at the beginning of the Kiambu County Hustlers Fund.

According to the DP, every home, school, market, or other public facility serviced by the last mile electricity connection would receive internet access as part of the ambitious internet connectivity program.

The last mile initiative has increased Kenya’s access to power to 75%.

Ruto estimated that Sh38 billion would be required to provide internet service to every home.

“We need around Sh38 billion to supply internet to every house,” Ruto said.

He clarified that everyone who needs browsing services will no longer require packages because the internet is readily available.
