UPDATE: Mike Sonko dumps Raila, to join DP Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza

Mike Mbuvi Sonko, a former governor of Nairobi, has defected from Azimio La Umoja’s side and joined that of Deputy President William Ruto.

Sonko was formally welcomed to the Kenya Kwanza squad by the DP in a message on Saturday.

“We welcome Mike Sonko to Kenya Kwanza, the winning team,” Ruto welcomed him.

The action was taken two days after Sonko declared he would not support Abdulswamad Nassir, an ODM candidate for the governor of Mombasa.

In response to the High Court judgement upholding the decision to not clear him, Sonko urged that the IEBC permit his running mate Ali Mbogo to run for the governorship.

He declared that he would not support Nassir if the wiper candidate was not on the ballot.

He forewarned that he would support Hassan Omar of the UDA for the position of governor of Mombasa.
