Wekesa rose to fame after claiming to have been made Jesus in a vision from heaven.

He compares himself to Jesus in the Bible, with his own disciples and angels who serve him and bow for him during his sermons.

“I was made Jesus in a vision from heaven. This happened in 2009 when I was installed as Jesus,” Eliud said.

Now, as the world celebrates Easter season in commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus, many people have been expecting that Wekesa will also be crucified in Bungoma.

However, the 42-year-old Wekesa has said that the correct Easter should be celebrated in July, and not April, according to his Biblical interpretation.

“I heard some people in my Lukhokhwe Village neighbourhood saying I should be crucified, just like Jesus Christ. Some of them even came to my homestead carrying a hammer and six-inch nails. I prayed and they had an immediate change of mind and went back,” Wekesa told The Standard.

Adding:

“Biblically, April is a month characterised by killing. I wouldn’t want to celebrate Easter on such a month. My interpretation of the scripture says Easter should be celebrated in July, and not April.”

When asked if he worries that some locals could try to have him forcibly crucified this Easter, Wekesa replied:

“No. I have supernatural powers. They can’t even attempt to crucify me. My homestead is easily accessible. That tells you I don’t fear anything.”

Wekesa intends to observe a fast from Friday through Sunday in observance of the current Easter season (April), attend mass on Saturday, and participate in biblical lessons on Sunday.

The wife of the father of eight children goes by the name of Angel Benjamin.

“I was human before I became Jesus. So, people should not be surprised when I lead a human lifestyle,” he said.

Jesus of Tongaren condemned

Religious leaders in Bungoma, Kenya, have recently united in condemnation of Eliud Wekesa, who claims to be the ‘Jesus of Tongaren’.

Wekesa has been accused of deceiving his followers by asserting that he is the son of God. The religious leaders have emphasized that no human being can be Jesus and that Wekesa’s claims are a perversion of the Bible.

Bishops and other members of the clergy met in Bungoma on March 14 to discourage Christians from listening to Wekesa’s preaching’s.

Bishop Calistus Barasa of Apostolic Missions International stated, “We are followers of Jesus and no human being can be Jesus, the world should steer clear from hearing this perversion, these are people who don’t understand the Bible at all.”

Reverend Frederick Ogara also criticized Wekesa, saying, “We know that Jesus will return at an unknown time and that John the Baptist went. We know that Jehovah is the almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth.

“All that you have heard is gossip about these people who compare themselves to Jesus. They are all cowards, and we as a church do not recognize them at all.”

Reverend Ogara is a senior pastor at Victory Faith Bungoma and he is also the chairperson Network of Bungoma County Pastors.
