Driver narrowly escape death hours after buying a Probox

A Probox carrying two people fell into a swamp in Kirinyaga on Thursday, April 6, as it was driving along the Mwea-Embu highway.

As the driver lost control of the car and drove off the road and into a marsh at Mutithi, it was traveling toward the Makutano side of the highway and created a major backup.

The two people in the automobile fortunately survived the accident.

A witness named Benjamen Kariuki, who spoke to the media, said the passengers had just bought  the car from Embu and were on their way to their home in Murang’a when the accident happened.

According to Kariuki, the Probox’s driver appeared to have lost control of the car, causing the swerve.

The incident rapidly attracted a mob of witnesses and bystanders who flocked to the area to provide aid.

The truck was eventually recovered by two adjacent local divers using a chain attached to a waiting tractor. To guarantee that the car and its occupants were securely removed from the swamp, the divers moved rapidly.

Authorities had to tow the car to the Sagana police station because it had sustained significant damage in the collision.

The police commander for Mwea West, Mbatian Kantai, arrived on the spot and verified that the driver and passenger were both safe.

He thanked the divers for their assistance in retrieving the car and commended the emergency services for their prompt action.

The event generated a traffic jam along the congested Mwea-Embu highway, resulting in lengthy delays for many commuters.
