Police officer who was hit by catapult-propelled stone in Kisumu has died

A police officer who was hurt on Thursday during the Azimio demonstrations in Kisumu has passed away.

According to a police report, Officer Ben Oduor of the Keroka Police Station in Nyamira was on duty during the large-scale demonstrations and was hurt while in the vicinity of the Jamia Supermarket.

The officer and his companions were overpowered by the rioters who were charging them, and they were hurt as a result.

He was hospitalized to the ICU at Aga Khan Hospital after being brought there for care, where he passed away on Thursday night.

The body is currently lying at the hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.

The officers were overwhelmed when a group of youth broke into the supermarket, vandalised and stole goods.

Proprietor Hussein Hassan condemned the incident saying he lost goods worth millions of shillings.

He wondered why the protesters targeted his business.

“What have I done to warrant such destruction? What problem do the people have with me,” he posed.

“I have a family and people taking care of and I don’t know where to start.”
