NTSA’s Requirements for All Boda Boda Registration After Uhuru Order

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced that all boda boda riders will be required to register for the first time on Monday, March 28 across the country.

The regulatory authority issued a list of prerequisites for all riders to show for a successful registration process in a notification dated Sunday, March 27.

The authorities also stated that all cyclists will be able to participate in the exercise for the next two months, through Friday, June 24.

Riders should bring their original identification (ID) cards to the exercise, which will be held at specified Huduma Centers across the country.

The operators must also have a working phone number and a copy of their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Number.

“To register as a bodaboda rider, visit the nearest Huduma Center from March 28th to 24th June. Carry your original ID, Copy of KRA PIN & a phone with the rider’s number,” read the statement in part.

The Directorate had previously promised that the first 200,000 people who registered their boda bodas would receive a complimentary 12-month NHIF membership.

All riders who submit their registration before the deadline will receive free services, but after the deadline, registration fees will restart.

The order came days after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered that the boda bodas be re-registered and re-trained.

The President put the Ministry of Transport under Cabinet three weeks after launching a nationwide crackdown on the sector.
